Stories From the Community
Everyone's story is unique.
I knew my partner since the beginning of high school. The first warning signs I noticed was him controlling what I wore and isolating me from my friends. Relationships are supposed to feel stable and comfortable but instead I felt as if I were walking on eggshells around him all the time.

I was scared to walk away. It was constant fighting, doubt, and fear. But I stayed because it was comfortable. Sometimes we were good-our highs were high and our lows were lower. When I look back I savor the peace I have in my life now. I am able to think on my own, live for myself and not live for someone who took advantage of me.

Peace. That is one of the greatest things I have experienced getting out of my relationship. And it is more than anything I could have asked for.

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone going through a similar situation, I would say: don't lost yourself in your relationship. Don't let anyone take any part of yourself away from you. Not your smile, your work ethic, your friends, nor your family. You are a complete and capable person on your own and know your worth.
